The Bistro on Sterling
Earlier this month, Joann Lindholm, who had owned Fresh Starts in Flossmoor retired, passing on the torch to new owners Rich and Tracy Cairo, who had both worked for Fresh Starts. The Cairos got started on freshening up the place and were able to complete the remodel in only a week and a half. The interior was gutted with a new bar and new flooring added and a coat of paint all around. The place looks fantastic - sleek and cozy.
I stopped in for lunch with my son just a week after the opening. We shared a cheese and antipasto board with Kerrigold Dubliner, sharp white cheddar, cinnamon cranberry goat cheese (AMAZING!), Tuscan veggies (mushrooms, artichokes, olives, pearl onions) & mini toast. It could have been a satisfying meal itself, but I had to try more. So, I snacked a bit, wrapped the rest and have been munching on it for the past three days.
Also on the menu of specials was a blackened scallops appetizer over pea puree. I really love scallops, so I decided to add a bistro salad and enjoy the scallops as my appetizer. They were perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth with a nice zip from the seasonings. My son, the burger lover, enjoyed a bistro burger - a fresh, generous patty on a toasted brioche bun with potato wedges.
While the restaurant has taken on a new look, the chef and staff have remained and much of the menu is the same. Popular menu items are still available with some new additions. There are also daily specials and you'll see some new and creative options there. Stop in to check them out - and tell them the Chicago Foodie Sisters sent you!
