Visit Kenosha Area for Fun and Good Food
As we are looking ahead to the summer and I'm picking out some places to travel to, I once again have Kenosha on the list. We've been there several times in the past and it remains one of our favorite Midwest spots for a weekend getaway. What's not to love? Plenty of beachfront with free parking. Top notch museums, many of them free. Shopping. Lighthouses. Electric Street Cars. Festivals. History. And of course there are some great spots for food.
Wisconsin is the land of cheese and sausage. We always have to bring back food souvenirs when we visit Wisconsin. Like bratwurst or knockwurst from the Brat Stop.
One place we have learned has amazing breakfast with a fun serving of nostalgia is Frank's Diner. Read about one of our visits here. It's a must if you're in Kenosha and you're hungry.
They've got lots of great festivals with some great grub and drinks. If you're a beer fan, don't miss the Border Wars Beer Fest.
And a favorite summer event that we've enjoyed visiting in the past is Taste of Wisconsin. It's right on the lakefront with free parking and lots of food options. One meal I enjoyed at a Taste of Wisconsin fest was tacos from Tacos El Rey in Kenosha. We've tried out other spots over the years that I loved, like House of Gerhard, which had some amazing schnitzel.
They even host a restaurant week now in February so you can get there in the winter and try out some of their eateries at a great deal.
Bristol Renaissance Faire is a super fun time as you're transported to jolly 'ol England centuries ago. There's various choices for grub while you make your way through the British-inspired village of long ago.
Another throwback place that is totally worth a stop is the Bristol 45 in nearby Bristol with lots of classic diner food and 50s decor. Also stop by the Spot Drive In for some more nostalgic fun and food.
And on our trips to Wisconsin, we've always got to make a stop at Jelly Belly Center to stock up on Belly Flops, the beans that are discounted as they have slight defects in appearance, but are still delicious! The Mars Cheese Castle, which recently expanded is another must - bring a cooler to fill with all the goodies you'll want to bring home.
There are many more restaurants I've read about that I hope to visit on future trips. Hopefully, I'll add a few more to the list this summer and I'll be sure to share them on social media and the Chicago Foodie Sisters blog. For more info on the Kenosha area, go to visitkenosha.com.
