Bread for the Journey

There are days when the hardships in life around us cause us to ask questions.
 No one seems to be exempt from problems! In my Bible readings I have been challenged
 to trust God in spite of and maybe, even more so, because of them.
To quote from Sarah Young, “Trust is the golden pathway to heaven.”
Oh, but that does not mean it’s easy! Trusting in spite of cancer progressing,
trusting when there is no job in sight, trusting that God will direct our kids or trusting
when parenthood is postponed for another month for sure!

Prov 3: 5,6 says,
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Recently our pastor preached a message using the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
Their plight was that if they did not bow to the image that the king had set in place,
they would be thrown into a fire. Their response was, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need
 to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace,
the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.
But even if he does not, … we will not serve your gods …”

Even if he does not … we will trust Him for what is best. That is the faith God honors.
I am comforted in knowing that He is preparing a place for us,
 that we may be where he is.
